DESCRIPTION:September 26 through October 26\, 2025 Opening Reception: Frida
y\,\nSeptember 26\, 2025 (5pm-7pm) Ventures Gallery My artwork comes from
a\nplace inside me that I have named ……. MY INNER WASTELAND. I first\n
made this realization when I was walking through the woods sketching\nand
gathering inspiration from the trees that surrounded me. At one\npoint dur
ing my walk\, I came across an old rusty car being swallowed\nby the vines
and foliage. It gave me pause\, contemplating how this car\ncame to its f
inal resting place and how the forest was quickly\nconsuming this intrusio
n into its natural habitat. As I moved on down\nthe path maybe due to the
discovery of the car\, I became increasingly\naware of the various debris
that littered the terrain around me.\nPapers of all sorts caught up in the
gnarled fingers of the trees that\nwere delivered over time by strong win
ds and Humans (Litter Bugs). I\nsat down on a tree stump\, saddened by the
amount of trash strewn\nabout\, trying to understand human ignorance. It
was alien and had no\nplace amongst all the natural beauty. I had a moment
of clarity then.\nI realized the intruding debris was being absorbed into
the landscape\,\nthat the forest was healing itself by overgrowing and pu
lling down the\nforeign matter into its darkest shadows. A new life was th
riving and\nexpanding above it. New shapes and forms over time were being
created.\nPlaces where the squirrels can escape the hawk\, where deer can
take\nrefuge from harsh weather. Then it occurred to me that this forest i
s\nmuch like our psyche. The debris that intruded into the forest is very\
nmuch like a bad day at work\, a broken heart\, or something much worse\,\
nlike sudden death in the family. These things that life blows our way\ndo
n’t always get cleared out. The branches and brambles cause some\nto get
hung up and entangled causing discomfort deep within us. Inside\nwe are l
ike the forest\, we have the ability to heal ourselves from\nthese obstruc
tions and foreign matter\, to push\, pull and overgrow that\nwhich pollute
s our psyche. To let the good things that happen to us in\nlife… a first
kiss\, a mothers hug\, our son or daughter being born\,\nwe allow that to
be the fresh rain\, that quenches the thirst of new\ngrowth. To bring sun
light into the dark corners\, flowers can bring the\nfreshness and beauty
onto that new landscape being created. This is\nwhere I come to find inspi
ration. I visit my stories that both bathe\nin the light and those that hi
de in those dark. Cold pockets under\nlayers of vines and even much deeper
buried beneath the earth’s\nsurface. As I walk through and look for tho
se stories I cultivate MY\nINNER WASTELAND and personal connection to my s
ubject matter. In\nreturn\, comes the best opportunity to create work that
is genuine. My\nshow “By Chance” is just that. Stemming from my walks
through my\nInner wasteland. Plucking and gathering words out of the terr
ain.\nThese words I then placed into a bag and were blindly drawn in\ngrou
pings of 3. Each trio of words will be turned into a finished\nimages. Thi
s exercise is intended for me to randomly place words\ntogether to create
a story I may have never told otherwise.\nInteresting how some of the word
grouping have some common ground\nwhere other word groupings are very for
eign from one another. Invoking\nthought that is intriguing to me as an ar
tist and will be equally\nintriguing for the viewer because the three word
s will accompany each\nimage just below the title. Venue: Rehoboth Art Lea
 gue.
