A printmaker and book artist working with images and\nlanguage seen through the lens of disability and difference\,\nSchupbach-Gordon uses ima ges exploring concepts of water and buoyancy\nto describe and re-frame our understanding of frailty and resilience.\nWhile the work is not “about ” disability\, disability is the lens\nthrough which she sees the world. Printmaking and letterpress are the\nlanguages that are used and the craf ts that she loves. The prints are\na combination of intaglio\, woodcut\, c ollage\, and letterpress. Many are\ncut and pieced\, like quilts and are h and sewn and one of a kind. All\nthe pieces for this exhibition are works on paper. Some of the works\nare two dimensional\, and some are sculptural artist books. Biography\nOriginally from Kentucky\, Terry earned both her BFA and MFA from\nIndiana University and taught Printmaking and Book Arts at Kenyon\nCollege from 1979- 1983\, and at the Minneapolis College of Ar t and\nDesign from 1983- 1988. In 1988 she opened Catbird (on the Yadkin)\ nPress in NC where she lives and works today. Her career as a\nprintmaker started in 1972. In addition to her work in the visual\narts\, she is also a storyteller\, puppeteer\, co-director of Catbird\nPress\, and an advoca te for disability issues. Drawn to printmaking\nbecause of the expressive nature of its history\, and a love of poetry\nand of storytelling\, the a rtist is naturally drawn to works that use\nboth words and images.
