SUMMARY:Fantasy
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Gallery One is pleased to announce the March show\, “Fantasy
 ” open\nto the public March 3\, 2021 through March 30\, 2021.\nThe artis
ts of Gallery One are fantasizing this month. Dreams\,\nimagination\, and
magic are all in view with this month’s show. W.\nScott Broadfoot’s oi
 l painting\, “Fantasy Still Life” illustrates\nthis perfectly\, and pr
ovides a little art history lesson as well. The\nword “Trompe l’oeil
” is French for “deceive the eye\,” and is\na painting technique tha
t uses realistic imagery to create the optical\nillusion that the depicted
objects exist in three dimensions. Although\nthe term gained popularity\n
in the early 19 th century\, the illusionistic technique associated\nwith
trompe l’oeil dates back to the murals of the Greek and Roman\neras. Sco
tt’s painting is composed of modern-day objects arranged in\na dream sce
nario and is so lifelike that you can almost smell the pipe\ntobacco and h
ear the mouse twittering.\nMany of our artists found themselves this month
in a springlike\nreverie of fantasizing on canvas about nature\, in its w
armer more\nverdant version. The Gallery is alive with birds\, gardens\, f
 lowers\,\nand fish. Dale Sheldon’s acrylic painting\, “Meeting Monet\,
”\ncombines a wish to meet the legendary painter himself with a depictio
n\nof his lush garden in Giverny. While Cheryl Wisbrock’s watercolor\npa
inting\, “Nature Preserve\,” is a more local illustration of a\nsmall
park reminiscent of a fairy garden in vibrant shades of Green.\nSpeaking o
f fairy gardens\, artist\, Leo Kahl finds himself wondering\nwhat happens
at night in them\, away from the nature lovers prying eyes\nin his paintin
g\, “They Only Come in the Night.” Lesley McCaskill\nis reliving a fan
tasy day with the birds in her backyard in her\nacrylic painting\, “Reve
rie.” And in her oil painting\,\n“Overture\,” Eileen Olson has creat
ed a dramatic amalgamation of\nall of her bird fantasies. Her glowing red
wings passionately\nexploding against a deep blue sky take our breath away
 . Marybeth\nPaterson’s “Roses for a Winter Day\,” in oil\, reminds u
 s of all\nour rose petal-based fantasies\, their velvety soft\, delicately
\nfragrant perfection begs us to imagine them floating around us. Joyce\nC
ondry has always dreamt of having a Koi pond in her back yard\, and\nshe\n
shares that with us in her acrylic collage\, “Koi Pond.” Her\npainting
is a whimsical and striking composition of complementary reds\nand greens
 . Laura Hickman’s pastel painting\, “Isola Tiberina\,”\nis a portrai
t of a tiny\, charming Italian village that calls to\nLaura’s heart. Mar
 y Bode Byrd’s mixed media acrylic\, “Going to\nthe Fair\,” imagines
a better summer ahead in which we gather with\nour friends and children an
d grandchildren and enjoy the simple joy of\na trip to the fair\, or carni
val or boardwalk. Mary’s colorful\nabstract painting sings with the joys
of summer.\n\nWe hope you’ll come in and share our reverie this month\,
there are\nwarmer\, brighter\, more fantastic days ahead. Gallery One is
open daily\n10am – 4pm. Gallery One is open 7 days a week The Gallery is
always\nstaffed by an artist. Gallery One is located at 32 Atlantic Avenu
