SUMMARY:Unbounded II
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The City of Lewes through the Lewes Public Arts Committee is pl
eased\nto announce an Art exhibition at Canalfront Park entitled Unbounded
II\nby artist Rachel Mica Weiss. The work references both the\nlimitlessn
ess of the natural world and our struggle to shape or tame\nit. Unbounded
II arrived April 18th to our beloved Canalfront Park\ncausing excitement i
mmediately. The lure of an artist at work was too\nmuch to resist for the
folks that were visiting the park on such a\nbeautiful weekend. Dozens of
families stopped and asked questions\nabout what was going on. Many shared
their feelings as they responded\nto this sculpture. Please come down and
take a look because pictures\ndo not do it justice and let us know your t
houghts. We will be\nconducting bi-weekly art discussions on site beginnin
 g the Sunday\nApril 25 at 4 pm. From Rachel’s website The large-scale\ns
 ite-specific and site-responsive architectural Interventions in the\nUnbou
nded series utilize hand-chiseled obsidian rock and hand-dyed\nrope to cre
ate bound yet flowing textile surfaces. The materials used\nquestion our a
ssumptions about material characteristics and reference\ntheir surrounding
s: Unbounded echoes the industrial\, seafaring history\nof its immediate s
ite… This series highlights the forces shaping us\,\nwhile simultaneousl
y asking the viewer to question the human impact on\nthe landscape and rec
onsider the stability of boundaries—whether\nphysical\, architectural\,
or self-created. The work asks viewers to\nfeel a sense of vulnerability w
hen in conversation with the over 6\,000\npounds of obsidian that comprise
s each of these seemingly\ngravitationally impossible formations. An objec
t with nautical ropes\nand stones as found in our jetties will slip natura
