SUMMARY:Vinyl Shockley
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:After successfully supporting others as a drummer\, Ed Shockley
\, the\nguiding force behind vinyl shockley\, decided to finally pursue hi
s\ndream. As a singing drummer\, Ed had been discouraged from attempting\n
to “front” a band from behind the kit. “Different managers and\nreco
rd companies had asked me to move either to the keyboards or out\nfront to
more effectively lead a band\, and I’ve tried it all. But\nnothing ever
feels as good or as natural to me as singing and playing\ndrums.”\n\nSo
Ed went back to his roots to put together vinyl shockley. “There\nis a
type of music that has always appealed to me\, a little\noff-center\, that
reflects the influences that rhythm & blues and\nhillbilly music have on
each other.” The way they come together\, in\nEd’s mind\, is unique. F
inding like-minded musicians to create this\nmusic proved to be a challeng
 e. After several starts and stops Ed\nfinally found a group of musicians t
hat understood the flavor he was\nlooking for and the band’s first CD fo
llowed.\n\n“A few years ago I started working on this music and approach
 \nbecause I thought the timing was right. There was a music-loving adult\n
audience out there that had been overlooked and underfed by the major\nrec
ord companies. The successes of the AAA and Americana formats have\nproved
  my point”\, Ed said.\n\nThe name\, vinyl shockley\, has a two-fold sign
ificance. Firstly\, Ed’s\ngrandfather’s name was Vinal and it has alwa
ys been in the back of\nhis mind\, and secondly\, the rootsy aspect of thi
s music reflects the\nrespect he has for and the inspiration he gets from
old records\n(vinyl) he collects. Hence: vinyl shockley\n\nThe music of vi
nyl shockley has been called “blue-eyed soul with a\nStax/Volt twist”\
 , and Ed’s “smiling\, pensive voice”\n“reminiscent of a young Van
Morrison”. As one reviewer wrote:\n“take the time to enjoy this honest
music that soothes the soul and\nmoves the feet.”\n
