Mr. Bill our guide was fantastic! He seamlessly blended historical facts, local lore, and humor. He also made sure to tactfully acknowledge some of the tawdry anecdotes in a way that kept it entertaining and family friendly! Our whole family, to include the 13 and 10 year olds, happily chatted about things we'd learned throughout the remainder of the day. We're so glad we took the time to do this quick walking tour. Hopefully the next time we visit, we'll be here for a First Friday event!

Lewes Historical Society is awesome. We got the $10 combo ticket that lets you visit all of their trio of paid-entry museums rather than paying $5 per person for each. This review is specifically for their Main Campus at Shipcarpenter Street. We walked the grounds and did a self-guided tour using the brochure map picked up from an outdoor self-serve box by the campus entrance. We visited at the end of the day so some things had already been closed up, but we loved how well kept the old 1890s schoolhouse and old tavern were. The campus was very peaceful. We wished we were going to be in town for the tavern's history night! We parked a couple blocks away by the Ryves Holt House (also owned & operated by the society, but has free entry) and walked down to this area. Very pretty walk. Great historic district feel.

It's a good museum to check out if you are in the area. No ticket is required for the museum. They have preserved the place the way it used to be back in the era. It was pretty interesting to check these and understand how things used to be.
